(ISN) — Ian Turner of Victoria has been named coach of the Vancouver Island Impact of the the Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) League for the 2010-11 season.
The FMAAA is entering the fourth season of play showcasing the top female talent in BC at the Female Midget level.
Also named by BC Hockey are Paul Matteucci, Kootenay Wildcats; Jason Garneau, Prince George Cougars; Mark Elder, Thompson-Okanagan Rockets; Pat Thibeault, Vancouver Fusion and Dean Reed, Fraser Valley Phantom.
ANDRES NAMED TO FEMALE HOCKEY ALL-STARS

Players were selected based on votes from BC Hockey Female Midget AAA League coaches. Coaches were prohibited from voting for players on their own team.
Also on the team are GoalieMegan Spooner – Prince George Cougars, Defense Darah Casorso – Thompson-Okanagan Rockets, Defense Madison Sands – Fraser Valley Phantom, Forward Lindsay Audia – Kootenay Wildcats, and Forward Julia McKinnon – Thompson-Okanagan Rockets
BC Hockey created the Female Midget AAA League in the 2007-2008 season.
IMPACT END SEASON WITH ONE TIE, TWO LOSSES

Despite playing possibly their best hockey of the year the Vancouver Island Impact came away from their final league competition in Kelowna last weekend with one tie and two losses.
The Island girls opened up against the Prince George Cougars.
The Cougars jumped out to a three-goal lead by the end of the 1st period before the Impact shook off their bus-legs.
Christine Smith (Nanaimo) put the Impact on the come-back trail as she scored an unassisted goal, with 5:29 left in the 3rd period, by battling hard for position in the Prince George slot and popping in a rebound.
One minute and five seconds later Emily Heavenor (Port Hardy) drew the team within one as she scored an unassisted goal with a hard wrist shot on the rush.
With 1:45 left in the game the Impact pulled their goalie and Katelyn Atchison (Lake Cowichan) tied the score with a hard low slap shot from the blueline, with the assist going to Aicia Archer (Saanich), tying the game 3-3.
On Saturday the Impact went up against the high flying Kootenay Wild.
The Wild opened the scoring five minutes into the first period. Four minutes later Smith opened the scoring for the Impact with the assist going to Atchison.
Haley Taylor put the Impact ahead capitalizing on a rebound from a Jennifer Mathieson shot as both girls fought hard for position at the net.
The Wild tied the scoring early in the 2nd period. Zoe Battie (Nanaimo) put the Impact back in the lead with a goal assisted by Holly Reid.
The Wild battled back and the second period ended tied 3-3. Four minutes into the third period Heavenor regained the lead on a pass from Battie.
With seven minutes left in the game the Wild tied the score and three minutes later took the lead with the puck bouncing off a player in the slot and eluding the Impact goaltender.
The Impact pulled their goalie in the final minute but allowed and empty net goal to lose the game 6-4.Sunday morning the Impact had a hard fought game with the Fraser Valley Phantoms.
The first period was scoreless with end-to-end action.
The Phantoms scored early in the 2nd period and added a second goal to establish a two goal lead.
Maddison McIntosh drew the Impact within one as she scored with assists going to Kim Penny and Heavenor.
Despite a late game rally the Impact were unable to get their goalie out and the Phantoms went on the win 2-1.
HEAVENOR RUNNER-UP FOR FEMALE MIDGET AAA PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Lindsay Audia of Trail and the Kootenay Wildcats is the BC Hockey Female Midget AAA player of the month for January.
Emily Heavenor of the Vancouver Island Impact was runner-up.
Audia finished the month with four goals, two assists and a plus seven rating in only three games.

The Vancouver Island Impact’s Emily Heavenor was runner-up in selection of the Female Midget AAA Player of the Month for January
Winner was Lindsay Audia from Trail of the Kootenay Wildcats.
Audia had a great month finishing with four goals, two assists and a plus-seven rating in only three games.
IMPACT LOSE TO CATS, FUSION

The Vancouver Island Impact came up short as they hosted the BC Hockey Female Midget AAA league weekend Jan. 23-24 in Nanaimo.
The Impact started their weekend pitted against the Kootenay Wildcats.
The Wildcats took the lead early in the first period. Ninety seconds later Alyssa Andres was set up by Aicia Archer to tie the score while on the power play.
The teams played head to head for the remainder of the period.
The Wildcats took the lead early in the second period and went on to win 5-1.
In their second game of the day the Impact faced off against the Prince George Cougars in a penalty-filled game.
The Cougars built up a four-goal lead until the middle of the second period when Madison McIntosh woke the Impact up with a goal assisted by Kathy Butterfield and affiliated player Samm Moore from Port Alberni.
Prince George restored the four-goal lead three minutes later.
Katelyn Atchison drew the Island girls within three as she scored with Maggie Paugh and Emily Heavenor assisting.
In the third period Heavenor got her second point of the game as she scored with Christine Smith picking up the assist. Prince George went on to a 5-3 win.
On Sunday morning the Impact were up against the powerful Vancouver Fusion.
Despite putting up a spirited defense the Island girls were not able to handle the Fusions high-powered offense and lost by a score of 7-0.
The Impact’s next league action will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Kelowna when they will have the chance to seek revenge on the Prince George Cougars and the Kootenay Wildcats and also face off against the Fraser Valley Phantoms against whom they have a record of 2-3-1.
Five members of the Impact took part in the inaugural Female Midget AAA All Star game held in conjunction with the league games.
Vancouver Island Players included Team White: Alyssa Andres of Victoria and Emily Heavenor of Port Hardy. Team Blue: Zoe Battie of Nanaimo, Aicia Archer of Victoria and Kelsey Young of Langford.
NANAIMO TO HOST FIRST FEMALE MIDGET AAA ALL-STAR GAME

The inaugural Female Midget AAA League All-Star Game is set for 7:15 p.m. Friday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Playing for Team White from the Island are forwards Alyssa Andres and Emily Heavenor.
The Blue Team will include Kelsey Young on the defense, and forwards Aicia Archer and Zoe Battie.
During the first and second intermission of the game a skills competition will be held for all the participating All-Star players. The skill competition will include: fastest skater and a breakaway challenge.
Following the All-Star Game on the Friday evening the League teams will play their fifth League Weekend at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
SUCCESSFUL ROAD TRIP FOR THE IMPACT

The Vancouver Island Impact Female Midget AAA team completed a very successful road trip in Vancouver this past weekend.
Friday the team faced off against the Fraser Valley Phantoms midget AAA team at the Pitt Meadows arena.
The Impact skated to a 3-2 victory.
Emily Heavenor led the scoring with two goals while Katelyn Atchison chipped in with the other goal.
Zoe Battie and Maggie Paugh had two assists each while Kathy Butterfield had one.
Breanna Hynes was sharp in net stopping 38 shots.
On Saturday morning the Impact had a rematch with the Phantoms at the Langley Ice Center.
The game saw end-to-end action and the Impact skated to a hard fought 4-3 victory.
Goals were scored by Heavenor, Taryn Ashdown, Alyssa Andres and Aicia Archer. Hailey Fischbach had two assists as did Battie and Heavenor. Kelsey Young and Andres also had assists.
Brea Sharkey was at the top of her game as she turned away 31 shots.
In the second game of the day a fatigued Impact squad went up against the Vancouver Fusion but could not find their legs and was defeated 4-0.
To round out the trip a spirited team skate took place on Sunday morning and the girls went home satisfied with their weekend’s work.
IMPACT TAKE UP CANUCK CHALLENGE

Two members of the Vancouver Island Impact female Midget AAA team took part Monday in the Vancouver Canucks Play Station Challenge.
Two players from Nelson also took part in the challenge, which is an ongoing event during the intermission of the Canucks home games
Taking part from the Impact, in white, are Katelyn Atchison of Lake Cowichan and goalie Bria Sharkey of Nanaimo.
The inaugural Female Midget Triple-A All-star Game will take place Jan. 22 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Among the 40 B.C. Female Midget Triple-A League players taking part are Vancouver Island Impact players Alyssa Andres, Emily Heavenor, Kelsey Young, Aicia Archer and Zoe Battie.
PHANTOMS FEEL THE IMPACT

The Vancouver Island Impact female Midget AAA team went up against the Island Pacific Phantoms Women’s Senior A team in exhibition hockey play Saturday.
The Impact skated to a 5-0 win using speed and sharp passing to carry the play.
Emily Heavenor led the scoring with two goals. Christine Smith, Hailey Fischbach and Kathryn Butterfield chipped in with one goal each.
The Impact next see action Friday in a three- game road trip to Vancouver where they will square off against the Fraser Valley Phantoms and the Vancouver Fusion, also Midget AAA teams.
