CLAREMONT IN GIRLS AAA SOCCER FINALS

(ISN) — Claremont Secondary’s girls soccer team takes on Argyle Secondary school from North Vancouver at noon today for the B.C. girls AAA high-school championship.
The tournament, hosted by Stelly’s Secondary School Stingers, is taking place at the University of Victoria.
Both the Claremont and Argyle were undefeated in the round-robin, with Claremont defeating Burnaby Central 4-0, South Delta 2-0 and Prince George 5-0.
Argyle defeated Parksville’s Ballenas 3-0, Fraser Valley’s Elgin Park 2-1 and the Kootenay’s Mount Baker, 5-0.
Claremont came into the tournament ranked first on Vancouver Island. Argyle arrived at the tournament ranked number one.
Other Island teams did not fare as well.
Ballenas lost 3-0 to Argyle, tied 2-2 with Elgin Park and lost 3-0 to Mount Baker.
Reynolds Roadrunners lost 3-1 to Vancouver’s McMath, 3-1 to the Fraser Valley Centennials and 5-3 to the Okanagan’s Mount Boucherie.
Stelly’s Stingers lost 3-0 to Dr. Charles Best, 1-0 to Point Grey and tied 0-0 with Fraser Valley’s Fleetwood Park.

(ISN) — Reynolds Secondary School was defeated 3-1 today by Robert A. McMath
Secondary from Richmond in the B.C. AAA girls high school soccer championship currently under way at the University of Victoria.
McMath is ranked number one in the Vancouver district.
Reynolds was up 1-0 in the first two minutes, then Mcmath scored two unanswered goals to take a lead.
Reynolds pushed to tie the game but McMath scored the last goal in the last few minutes of the game to close it out.
Reynolds was later defeated by Centennial 3-1.
Sixteen teams from across the province are vying for the title.
Representing Vancouver Island are the Claremont Spartans, Ballenas Whalers (Parksville) and Reynolds Roadrunners, who finished 1-2-3 in the Island finals, along with host-school Stelly’s Stingers.
Claremont defewated Prince George 5-0 and South Delta 2-0; Balenas tied Elgin Park 2-2 but lost to Mount Baker 3-0 while Stelly’s lost to Charles Best 3-0 and Point Grey 1-0.
Tournament action goes from 8:30 am.-5:30 p.m. Friday and begins at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.
The championship game will be played Saturday at noon.
This year’s Double-A tournament, featuring St. Michaels Blue Jags, Carihi (Campbell River) and Gulf Islands from the Vancouver Island region, is taking place at Sa-Hali Secondary in Kamloops, and Glenlyon Norfolk is part of Single-A championship play at Abbotsford’s St. John Brebeuf Secondary.

STELLY’S BACK-TO-BACK ISLAND AAA SOCCER CHAMPS

Stelly’s Secondary School Stingers are the Vancouver Island AAA soccer champions – for the second time in a row.
They defeated Frances Kelsey of Mill Bay 4-0 and Oak Bay High School 2-1, tied Cowichan Secondary 2-2 and had a stunning 1-0 victory over Reynolds Secondary in the final.
This is the third year we have been in the final and also the third year we have been the AAA Lower Island League Champs, said Coach Jackie Cunningham.
“From a student perspective we have boys on the team that have won three Island titles at Stelly’s (one at Junior and two at Senior) and one of those boys has been in the Island final all four years he has played soccer for Stelly’s.”
The three-time Island champs (grade 9, 11 and 12) from Stelly’s are Craig Taylor, Kenny Erb, Colin Taylor and Erick Hoekstra. Craig Taylor has played in an Island final all four years at Stelly’s.
The team includes Aaron Baskerville-Bridges, Josh Dellebuur, Adam Donald,
Jordan Elvedahl, Kenny Erb, Ryan Fedrigo, Erick Hoekstra, Roman Huckele, Ian Langstaff, Brett Lumley (Captain), Scott Matthews,Ben Olsen,
Stephen Payne, Mike Stepaniuk, Connor Stokkeland,
Colin Taylor, Craig Taylor (captain),and Zach White.
