The Tim Horton’s Novice 2W boys were at the top of their game in a matchup against Juan de Fuca 2B Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies had the upper hand in the first period with a lead of two, but in the second the Sooke Thunderbirds really started to light up their skates and evened the score.
By the third period, the Thunderbirds were unstoppable with most of the action down at the opponents end. The Grizzlies goalie was certainly given a good workout, though she managed to stop a few breakaways.
Sooke’s goalie Austin Cavan could have easily gotten distracted with the free time he was getting, but when it counted he was focused.
It was apparent that the visitors were feeling frustrated, earning 3 penalties for tripping.
Tyler Fogarty had a great game scoring Sooke’s first goal, he was fired up after that and came close several more times but it was Jarret Blaase who was unstoppable and added 4 goals to the board.
Forrest Croden dug deep and finally got one through himself in the third period.
The final score was 7-3 for Sooke.

The Tim Horton’s Novice Thunderbirds Boys team met the Novice Girls on the ice at Seaparc Arena in Sooke on Sunday morning.
These teams have been great competitors this season, the boys’ power and energy a good match to the girls’ skill and speed.
The last few matchups have resulted in ties, but with the boys having just slept off the wrath of losing the night before they came to the ice hungry for points and they got them.
Jarrett Blaase and Forrest Croden continue to dominate the scoreboard but Noah Hamilton, Tyler Fogarty, Matthew Ryan and Ben Ackinclose also scored one each for Sooke.
Triston Waskul and Beau Hicks were solid on defence out in front of Austin Cavan, who was calm and cool as usual. The girls seemed a bit taken aback at the boys’ enthusiasm, but did not give up and Erin Chisolm manged one goal in the third period to put them on the board.
The final score was Boys 8 Girls 1.
