My name is Jordan Sundher and I am the defensive coordinator and assistant coach for the Victoria Shamrocks.

This is my first year on the bench with the team after nine seasons as a player for the Shamrocks.

I’m looking forward to blogging and giving the readers of the Island Sports News Network a behind-the-scenes look at our games.

So far so good, 7 wins 0 losses to date.

The boys have been working hard in games and in practices and it shows in our record. The offence has been a juggernaut scoring 38 goals over the past two games. The defence could you use a little work as we have allowed too many easy goals against teams that shouldn’t score more then 5-7 goals against us.

Friday night’s game against Maple Ridge was a hard fought affair with our team coming out on top 18 -9. The score was not indicative of the play but our offensive unit just couldn’t be stopped.

Lewis Ratcliff led the scoring with two goals and assisting on seven others. As usual against Maple Ridge the game was ultra physical which was highlighted by Curt “Both Hands” Morwick laying a beating on Maple Ridge’s pugilist Kevin Reid. Reid started this tussle but Morwick definitely finished it!

Other standouts that game were Luke Wiles with six goals and Dylan Lord with three goals.

After icing up and rehydrating on Friday night the team loaded the bus for a game in Nanaimo on Saturday night.

Another huge outpouring of goals allowed us to coast to a 20 – 10 victory over the struggling Nanaimo Timbermen.

Lewis Ratcliff again led the scoring with four goals and five assists. Rookie Ben Johnson played a strong game and had his first Senior A goal that night.

The coaches have been pleasently surprised with this young athlete’s game. He is a strong defender, runs the ball well and is dominating the face-off circle.

A key to our success so far has been the strong play of our young players and rookie Kyle McCartney also impressed us Saturday night with his first and second Senior A goals.

Young players will need to continue to push the veterans every game if we are to continue our success throughout the season.

Our next game is 7:45pm Friday, June 19th against the Langley Thunder at The Bear Mountain Arena. Hope to see you all there!
