Victoria Grizzlies came from behind to wipe out the Merritt Centennials 7-4 Saturday in B.C. Hockey League action at Bear Mountain Arena. On Sunday, they tied the Okanagan Westside Warriors 3-3.

In other BCHL action Saturday, the Westside Warriors clipped the Nanaimo Clippers 5-2 in Nanaimo and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs chewed the Cowichan Valley Capitals 6-1 in Duncan. On Sunday, the Bulldogs edged the Merritt Centennials 3-2 in Port.

Brilliant netminding by Centennials’ 20-year-old call-up goaltender Riley Wall of Kamloops Saturday allowed Merritt to light the scoreboard first when Alexander MacMillan scored on his team’s second shot on net at 5:59 on a pass from Andrew Pickering and Colton Sobchak.

Pickering followed this with a short-handed goal at 8:09 with an assit from Kameran Crawford. Jeff Jones then scored unassisted at 11:30.

The Grizz responded with goals by game first star Wesley Myron from Brandon Fagerheim and Graeme Mccormick, Dustin Mowrey from Jordan Heywood and Joel Lowry, Fagerheim from Myron and Mccormick, and Brad Pawlowski from Fagerheim and Jake Baker.

Jones gave the Centennials their last goal of the game unassisted at 8:09 and the Grizz wrapped it up with goals by Mowrey from Joel Lowry and Alex Allan, Spencer Copp from Sam Grist and Fagerheim, and Myron from Copp and Fagerheim.

The Grizz outshot Merritt 49-22.

Second star was the Grizzlies’ Fagerheim and third, the Centennials’ Jeff Jones

Okanagan Westside Warriors 3 – Victoria Grizzlies 3

On Sunday, the Westside Warriors reached the scoreboard first with a goal by Grayson Downing from Izaak Berglund and Kyle Singleton at 14:33.

Victoria Grizzlies responded at 4:49 of the second period with a goal by Mowrey from Joel Lowry. This was quickly followed by Westside 5:24 with a goal by Cam Reid from Cole Wilson.

Mowrey scored again on the power play at 11:37 from Heywood and Brad Pawlowski. Fagerheim made it 3-2 on a pass from Copp just before the period ended.

Trevor Bailey tied it for the Warriors just before the end of the game on a pass from Joel Woznikoski and Wilson.

There was no score in the two overtime periods.

Mowrey was named first star;  goalie Richard Virtanen, second; and Heywood, third.

The Grizzlies drive north Wednesday for a game against the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan.
Okanagan Westside Warrior 5 – Nanaimo Clippers 2

Scoring for the Warriors were Cole Wilson from Brendan Ellis and Cam Reid, Trevor Bailey from Reid and Wilson, Max French from Dru Morrison and Colton Sissons, Trevor Bailey from Wilson, and Trevor Bailey, unassisted.

For the Clippers it was Tyler Mah from Tristan Lowenberger and Carson Schell, and Brayden Jaw from Tyler Mah and Kyle Kramer.

The Clippers’ Bailey and Wilson were named the first and second stars, and Kevin Jebson, third.

Alberni Valley Bulldogs 6 – Cowichan Valley Capitals 1

Mitch MacMillan put the Bulldogs on the board on a powerplay goal from Mark MacMillan and Kevin Ross. Mitch MacMillan did it again on another power play five minuites later on a pass from Ross and Josh Mitchell.

Johnny Rogic made it 3-0 on a pass from Matt Hatch and Luke Fenske and Mitch MacMillan rippled the net for a third time, this time from David Dziurzynski.

A power play goal in the second period by Ryan Green from Joel Kern put the Capitals on the scoreboard but that was it for the Caps.

Mitch MacMillan scored again, from Ross and Mark MacMillan and Mark MacMillan ended the scoring on a pass from Jesse Halikas and Brody Lynott

Mitch MacMillan and Ross were first and second stars while the Caps’ Joel Kern was third.

Alberni Valley Bulldogs 3 – Merritt Centennials 2

On Sunday, Mitch MacMillan put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard on a pass from David Dziurzynski and Mark MacMillan. Dziurzynski scored a powerplay goal from Josh Mitchell and Mark MacMillan, and in the second period the Dogs’ Casey Bailey made it three on a pass from Johnny Rogic and Luke Fenske.

Andrew Pickering from Silvan Harper and David Sabey scored for the Centennials as did Jordan Soquila from Daniel Chang and Dustin Johnson on the power play in the third.

The Dogs’ Dziurzynski and Casey Bailey were first and second stars amd the Centennials’ Riley Wall, third.
