FORMER WORLD CHAMPIONS LEAD AT SCOTTIES CURLING

Former world champions Kelley Law of New Westminster and Kelly Scott of Kelowna are tied for first place with records of 5-1 at the B.C. Scotties Tournament of Hearts currently under way at the Penticton Curling Club.

Kristen Fewster of Prince George (4-2) is in third place after defeating Nicole Backe of Nanaimo 6-5 in an extra end Wednesday. In the earlier draw Backe defeated Kristy Lewis of Richmond 8-7.

Backe (3-3) is in a three-way tie for in fourth place, with Jerry-Pat Armstrong-Smith of Cranbrook and defending champion Marla Mallett of New Westminster, followed by  Lewis, Lori Olsen of Kamloops and Adina Tasaka of New Westminster who are tied at 2-4, and Karla Thompson of Kamloops (1-5).

The Nanaimo rink includes skip Backe, third Gloria Palinkas, second Shannon Gallaugher and lead Barb Zbeetnoff as well as coach Katie Witt.

Backe takes on Law at noon today and Tasaka at 7 p.m.
