Editorial, Photo and Web Publishing Interns - Open
Island Sports News (ISN) has immediate openings for seasonal or full-time interns for our editorial, photography and web publishing & social media departments.
As an intern with ISN you will gain valuable work experience in the world of sports and sports reporting, especially at the local and community level. As the #1 source for community and amateur sports related news on Vancouver Island, the Pacific Northwest and beyond, ISN is rapidly growing to cover other areas and other sports and we would like you to be a part of that!
As a web based media outlet, we work in a fast paced environment where stories can hit the “airwaves” just moments after the game or event is complete. As such, interns will also learn the ins and outs of working to deadlines, web publishing, social media sharing and article distribution.
All internships are unpaid positions.
We need editorial interns who can help expand our coverage of local and community sports at all levels especially high school, college, and minor sports associations across Vancouver Island. The interns will write news, features and articles for publication on our web site; assist with research, event/game scheduling and coordination; learn what it’s like to be copy edited and to work side by side with an assigning editor to improve their stories (from the concept stage through publication); and they will have the opportunity to interact with athletes, sports analysts, coaches and team management and administrators to develop a network that is extremely valuable in this segment of journalism.
To apply for this internship please send a resume detailing your education and work experience and two examples of your writing to ISN Editor Kelly Miller-Gerlach at email@example.com
Photography Interns / Volunteers
If you have a keen interest in sports photography, wish to increase the exposure of your sports images, learn how to improve your sports photography and have your work published on a regular basis, then consider joining our team of photographers. Photography is key to our success and simply put, we need more lenses covering more action at more venues. Photographers will work in tandem with our reporters and editors to provide the visual content for our stories and will learn valuable techniques in sports shooting, post-processing (cropping, lighting adjustments, etc.) and deadline driven deliver y of high quality sports imagery.
To apply for this internship please:
Web Publishing / Social Media Intern
Our web publishing / social media intern will assist the Editor in publishing and posting content that is received from both our reporters and photographers, but also from the numerous other sources, associations and individuals that we receive stories from. The intern will also be responsible for cross-posting our content to our various social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Google +, etc.) and they will learn and help improve how a small media outlet uses its website and social media to help attract new readers.
To apply for this internship please send a resume detailing your education and work experience and how you meet the above requirements to ISN Editor Kelly Miller-Gerlach at firstname.lastname@example.org.
